How Kinderhof works
From sign-up to your first family game, in four steps. Steps 1 and 2 are open now.
1. Create a family account
Enter your email address and we send you a magic link. Click it to sign in; there is no password. Then name your family. You become its owner. You can belong to more than one family, for example your own household and your parents'.
2. Invite your family
Owners and admins invite relatives by email. Each invitation is a single-use link that expires after seven days and can be cancelled before it is used. Children without an email address are added as child profiles.
3. Bring your tree
Upload a GEDCOM file to load your ancestors, then browse your tree: a searchable list of people, a page for each person and an ancestor chart. Connecting FamilySearch is planned for later. See the data sources below.
4. Play and remember
Kinderhof will generate a family calendar and five family games from the ancestors in your tree. Living people will never be included. COMING SOON
Roles in a family
Every person in a family account has one role. Each family always has at least one owner.
Owner
Created the family. Can do everything an admin can, change anyone's role, transfer ownership and delete the family account. A family can have more than one owner.
Admin
Helps run the family. Can invite and remove members, manage child profiles and manage the family's tree. Will also help run the calendar when it arrives. COMING SOON Cannot delete the family or remove owners.
Member
An adult or older child with their own login. Can browse the family's tree, and will be able to see the calendar and play the games. COMING SOON Can leave the family at any time.
Child profile
A profile for a young child. It has no email address and no login, and is managed by a parent or guardian in the family. It holds a first name or nickname and, optionally, a birth year, so games can pick the right level.
Where your family tree comes from
GEDCOM file
GEDCOM is the standard file for family trees. Export one from the program or website you already use, then upload it to your family. We read the people, their names, dates and places, and how they are related, and we ignore anything we do not need. You can replace or delete the upload at any time.
FamilySearch COMING SOON
Later, you will be able to connect your own FamilySearch account. You will see a clear permission screen from FamilySearch and can disconnect at any time.
What we will read: the people in your tree, their names, birth, marriage and death dates and places, relationships, and portrait photos you can already see.
Why: only to build your family's calendar and games.
What we will not do: change anything in FamilySearch, sell or share the data, or keep it after you disconnect. Data from FamilySearch is refreshed rather than permanently copied and is deleted when you disconnect.
Kinderhof is not affiliated with FamilySearch. The FamilySearch connection depends on approval and may change.
